Huawei has announced its new flagship its P20 and P20 Pro phone officially. Fresh and different from other phone models in the market, the P20 Pro oozes design and camera novelties. These new models come with a notch too but this notch can be concealed by “notch off’ option.

Two unprecedented phone features can be found on the P20 Pro. They are namely the triple Leica camera system and the dual-tone “Twilight” paint job (attractive metallic blue-purplish graduation) that changes color depending on the light reflection. The P20, on the other hand is more basic with a dual-sensor setup.

On the subject of the new camera system, the third lens Huawei on the P20 Pro is a telephoto camera with an 8-megapixel sensor. As such, P20 Pro has a 3x optical zoom and a 5x hybrid (optical and digital) zoom. Combining data from a monochrome and a color sensor is still in practice, however, with the color sensor having the resolution at 40 megapixels this time. By using that resolution to take photos and merging 4 adjacent pixels into one through a technique Huawei calls as Light Fusion, one can create a clearer & brighter 10 megapixel photo. The monochrome on P20 Pro is 20MP. The ISO sensitivity has also increased with the maximum setting of 102400 with the incorporation of a bigger sensor. P20 sports a 12MP sensor for colour and a 20MP sensor for monochrome instead.

What’s more interesting with these new models is that artificial intelligence or AI image stabilisation that the Huawei engineers have implemented in the new P20 and P20 Pro enables users to capture shots up to 4 seconds of exposure without much ISO noise, without a tripod.

P20 Pro will have a 6.1-inch OLED screen (2,240 x 1,080), 6GB of RAM, a 4,000mAh battery, and 128GB of storage. That’s lesser than the 2,960 x 1,440 screens that you get on Samsung’s current flagships. The smaller P20 is equipped with a 5.8-inch LCD screen (2,244 x 1,080), 4GB of RAM, a 3,400mAh battery and 128GB of storage. Both P20 and P20 Pro use the same Kirin 970 chip as the older Mate 10.

Despite all the great features listed, what are regrettably missing are the microSD card slot; to expand storage beyond the 128GB on-board and the the 3.5mm stereo jack; ways for audio listening are a USB -C jack via an adapter or wireless with Bluetooth headphones.

P20 and P20 Pro have already been launched in Europe.
